Wood fans, carvers and not, headed to the North Bend Community Center on Saturday for the South Coast Woodcarvers’ 17th-annual show and sale.
Hobbyists displayed their creations and gave demonstrations.
One self-portrait of sorts brought chuckles from attendees.
“Retirement Fund,” a self-carved likeness of featured artist Leland Simpson held out a hat to collect dimes and pennies. Simpson has been carving since 1992 and creates mostly wildlife figures as well as abstract pieces.

“If I don’t make any money by the end of the day, I’ll at least have this,” joked the Coquille-based carver.
The works of 40 Pacific Northwest artists were displayed for public viewing Saturday and Sunday. Carving enthusiasts as well as the general public were encouraged to attend workshops and seminars demonstrating tools and techniques of the trade. |
