A Florence-area woman was killed Saturday when her motorcycle struck a car on U.S. Highway 101 north of Florence.

According to a Oregon State Police press release, at about 12:50 p.m. Valerie L. Hood, 64, was traveling north near milepost 183 on a 2007 Baron motorcycle, when the motorcycle drifted into the southbound lane and struck a 2003 Buick headon. Hood was ejected from the motorcycle in the crash, police said.  She was pronounced dead at the scene. Hood’s husband, who was following her on the highway, was uninjured in the crash.

The driver of the Buick, Carolyn Ramus, 64, of Salem, was taken to Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence, where she was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Sunday.

State troopers are completing the investigation. No citations were issued.
