Monday, April 14, 2008 9:55 AM PDT

A Spring Belly Dance Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 19, at the Florence Events Center.

Festival Admission is $5 for daytime and $10 for the 7:30 p.m. show. Celebration dancing starts at 2 p.m.

The daylong event will include workshops, daytime dance performance opportunities, vending, door prizes, a raffle, mid-Eastern musical instruments demonstration and gala evening show, all at Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St.

Sabine will grace the stage for the evening show with her double scimitar dance. She will present a workshop, “Liquid Isolations and the Essence of Sword Dance,” for all levels. Sabine also will teach a children’s workshop on “Tribal Style” dance. This workshop, sponsored by Florence Dance Guild, is free of charge.

Shula Azhar will teach a drum solo workshop — all levels are welcome. Shula Azhar, a troupe from Port Angeles, Wash., have been together for 10 years. This multi award-winning troupe specializes in Raks Sharki style, but also includes many different styles such as folkloric, fusion and contemporary.

Americanistan will perform and provide music for the evening show as well as an instrument demonstration at 5:30 p.m. Americanistan has been performing across the nation for over 16 years.

There also will be a bazaar, featuring vendors with wares from all over the world.  There will be dancing of all ages and styles on the stage all day.  Red Rose catering will be open throughout the celebration with a menu especially for the event. There also will be a raffle for a 14-inch by 27-inch stained glass piece made by Teresa Weaver, featuring a belly dancer with glass donated by Stained Glass Fantasy.

The celebration is made possible with the sponsorship of the Florence Dance Guild, Friends of the Events Center, Silver Lining Boutique and Mezdulene & Mystical Oasis Dance Co.
