Tuesday

Honoring educators

Southwestern Oregon Community College is teaming with other area organizations to offer a Celebration of Early Childhood Professionals from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the South Coast Education Service District building on 1350 Teakwood Ave., Coos Bay.

The event is a kick-off for the annual Week of the Young Child, and all early childhood education providers are invited to attend for a light meal and appreciation. The Coos Bay School District, Coos County Commission on Children and Families, the Children’s Advocacy Center and Southwestern are partnering to offer the event.

Hepatitis C group

The hepatitis C support group, that met the third Tuesday of each month at South Coast Hospice in Coos Bay, has been disbanded.

Rhododendron auction

The April meeting of the Siuslaw Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will be held during the annual fund raising auction at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw, 3996 Highway 101 N. in Florence.

Members and growers will donate rhododendron plants to be auctioned off. Mike Bones, president of the chapter, will be the auctioneer. The auctions traditionally feature superior and unusual rhododendrons. Auctions are the only fundraisers the society holds.

The public is invited to attend society meetings held the third Tuesday of each month in the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw at 3996 Highway 101 North, just south of Bi-Mart. A brief social time preceding the meetings begins at 6:30 p.m.

Next week

Rummage sale

Coquille residents are invited to an annual rummage sale next week.

The event will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 17; from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 18; and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 19, at the Pioneer United Methodist Church, at the corner of Second Street and Baxter Avenue in Coquille. There will be a $1-a-bag sale on Saturday.

Next weekend

Old Time Fiddlers

The Oregon Old Time Fiddlers, District 5, will perform from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the Winchester Bay Community Center, 635 Broadway. The public is invited. For those interested, those interested can call 572-5532.

Boating class

The U.S. Coast Guard will teach an eight-hour Oregon State Marine Board class at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat Station in Charleston.

As of 2008, everyone 70 years old and younger is required to take the Oregon Mandatory Boater Education Program to operate a powerboat greater than 10 horsepower. The training also is required for anyone age 12 to 15 who plans to operate any size of powerboat. The class materials cost $15.

Lions Club speaker

The North Bend Lions Club will host a talk by Adam Colby on financial matters at its Tuesday, April 22 meeting.

Colby is a Coos County appraiser, was a securities branch operations manager, mortgage company loan officer, human resources manager and sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp. He also is a candidate for Coos County assessor. In addition, Morgan May will be sing “Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine.”

Ballroom dancing

Epiphany’s offers dancing from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday nights at its ballroom, 1989 Sherman Ave., downtown North Bend.

Swing dancing is offered Thursday nights. There are lessons for the first hour open dancing the rest of the night. The cost is $6 a person.
