Event will help fund scholarships
The Miss Coos County Scholarship Program pageant will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the Hales Center for the Performing Arts, on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay.
Miss Coos County is the local preliminary to Miss Oregon and Miss America. The Miss America organization is the largest provider of scholarships for women in the world. Last year over $45 million dollars in educational scholarships was awarded to young women all across the nation, according to a press release.
Last year, the Miss Coos County Scholarship Program helped young women access more than $10,000 in educational scholarships. The Scholarship Program is a nonprofit organization supported solely on the generosity and support of the local communities. Advanced tickets will cost $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12 and seniors. Tickets will be $20 at the door for all ages. Contestants will be selling tickets, and there will be several ticket locations through out the county.
