North Bend’s Michelle Schultz shot a 97 at Pacific Dunes on Wednesday to win a five-school girls golf tournament.

Schultz was the only player to break 100. Teammate Hayley McKinley was second at 107.

North Bend’s team score of 447 was 19 strokes better than Reedsport. Heather Parker and Dani Plagmann each shot 111 for the Braves.

Siuslaw’s Trini Wilson was fifth overall with a 113.

Pacific Invitational

A pair of the state’s top small-schools javelin throwers improved their top marks of the season with Class 3A-leading throws and also won other individual events at the Pacific Invitational  on Tuesday.

Bandon’s Cole Scherer had a lifetime best throw of 180 feet, 5 inches to win the javelin in the eight-school meet and also won the 800 meters with a solid time of 2:04.22.

Meanwhile, German exchange student Frauke Fuchs of Coquille improved her season best to 121-7 in the javelin and also won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.67 seconds, which ranks her second among Class 3A athletes, according to the track and field Web site athletic.net, which is used by most of the state’s coaches.

The meet included three other double-winners. Reedsport’s boys and Coquille’s girls took the team titles.

Among the girls, Sydney Snook of Gold Beach improved both her Class 3A-leading times while winning the 1,500 (5:03.05) and 3,000 (11:01.56).

Chelsea Standley of Powers won both the 100 (13.98) and 200 (28.99) and remains in the top 10 for Class 1A in both events.

Among the boys, the only other double-winner among the boys was Pacific’s Julian Carter, who won both distance races.

Scherer wasn’t the only thrower with a big mark. Reedsport’s Ismael Osorio won the shot put with an effort of 47-2 and Gold Beach’s Mitch Longwill won the discus with a toss of 147-1. Osorio leads Class 3A in the shot put, while Longwill ranks third in the discus.

Reedsport senior Jason Fishel, in his first meet, won the long jump with an impressive mark of 19-41⁄2, and also finished second in the 100.

Gold Beach’s Nathan Moore, one of the South Coast’s top sprinters, won the 100 meters and then finished second to Scherer in the 800 with a solid time of 2:04.60.
