Wednesday
Sewing, craft club
The Coos Stitchery and Craft Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road, Coos Bay.
Participants will make polymer clay buttons, and all supplies will be provided for $1. Those interested also can bring their own supplies, including clay, a smooth mat to roll the clay on and other tools. The club also will have its fourth-annual Spring Boutique.

Watercolor workshop
Advanced watercolor workshop with Liv Drahos and Julie Spence will continue from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays, April 10-24, at the Coos Art Museum, 235 Anderson Ave., Coos Bay.
This spring the Advanced Watercolor Workshop will be offered as per day classes. Each day a new subject will be explored. Registration is required, and there is a maximum of 12 students per class. Students are required to pre-register for per diem days, since the 12 student maximum will apply.
This workshop is open to adults, and the per day workshop fee is $12.

Family movie night
The Highlands Baptist Church is hosting Family Movie Night at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. A Disney movie about a man who is united with his daughter will be shown. There will be free popcorn provided for everyone.

New homebuyer class
Southern Oregon Coast Housing Opportunities Provider will present a home buying education class for Coos County residents from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Saturday at the Airport Heights Resource Center, 2630 11th Street, North Bend.
This eight-hour class is designed to help new homebuyers prepare for home ownership. The class will walk its participants through the home-buying process. Each participant will learn about the housing decisions, financial preparation, mortgages, shopping for a home, closing your loan and protecting ones investment after moving into the new home.
Participants can learn how to get $3,000 for down payment or closing cost money in grants with the Dream$avers Program. Preregistration is required.

The regular Saturday dance will be held at the Bandon Grange Farwest Hall on state Highway 42 South, just east of U.S. Highway 101.
Lessons will be offered from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., and a dance will follow from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Those attending can wear casual clothing. Singles and couples are welcome. No smoking or alcohol is allowed. There is no charge, but donations will be accepted to support grange activities.

This weekend
NW woodcarver show
The South Coast Woodcarvers 17th-annual Show and Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, at the North Bend Community Center, 2222 Broadway Ave.
Admission is free. The show will feature more than 40 woodcarvers from throughout the Pacific Northwest, including 15 Coos Bay and North Bend club members and some nationally recognized artists. Activities will include demonstrations by carving experts; a people’s choice contest; carvings, supplies, books and tools for sale; and a raffle table featuring carvings, books and tools. The raffle drawing will be held Sunday afternoon, and people need not be present to win.
Musical auditions
Florence’s Last Resort Players have announced auditions for the fall musical, “Into the Woods” will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and13, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 19th Street and Tamarack in Florence.
The musical’s characters include many from familiar children’s fairy tales such as “Cinderella,” “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Rapunzel” and the beanstalk-climbing Jack. All these and more make appearances in the first act, where their familiar stories are intertwined and updated. However, in Act 2, borrowing from the words of a legendary radio broadcaster, the audience experiences the rest of the story, according to a press release.
Director Laura Merz will be looking for actors to fill 16 singing roles, as well as six non-singing roles. Actors auditioning for singing roles are requested to prepare at least one song demonstrating their full range and singing ability. Those interested in non-singing roles will read for the available speaking parts.
“Into the Woods” is scheduled to be presented on the Florence Events Center stage Nov. 13-16.

Bandon Showcase will present the Black Irish Band, featuring the music of Ireland, Italy and America, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 18, at the Sprague Community Theater, 1202 11th St. S.W., in Bandon.
Hailing from the historic gold rush country of America, the Black Irish Band has a musical style as timeless as the rugged landscape of the West, according to a press release. The band, which formed 19 years ago, has a large complement of traditional maritime and railroad music, as well as ethnic tunes.
Tickets cost $20, with all seats reserved and are available at Bandon Mercantile, at the door, or by visiting Bandon Showcase’s Web site at http://www.bandonshowcase.org.
