Contributed Art Carol Young is exhibiting paintings with a variety of subjects in watercolor or pen and ink at the North Bend Public Library during the month of April. The paintings can be viewed in the Conference Room of the library at 1800 Sherman Ave.

Artwalk!, a self-directed tour of art displays and culture in historic North Bend and Coos Bay, is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Visitors can start the walk at any of the locations listed below. All locations will provide maps.

Pony Village Mall

The Artist Loft Gallery

Suite 103 in the East Wing, 756-4088, will feature guest artist Curt Hitch. Other featured artists will be Spence Billington and Hester Solseng with her beaded jewelry. Billington’s show, “Unusual Subjects,” reflects the diversity of his talent and his quirky sense of humor, according to a press release. Billington is a representational artist working in oil or watercolor. The reception will include refreshments and music, as well as special drawings and sales in prelude to the gallery’s anniversary celebration on Saturday and Sunday, April 18-19.

East Wing Art Wall

East Wing entrance, will feature Emily Ashworth’s acrylics.

Heritage Textile Arts Guild

Suite 157A, will feature hand-woven yarns and visitors can join the knit-in. Guild members will help participants begin a scarf or hat. Or, visitors can provide companionship while others knit. Refreshments will be served.

The Rose Palette Art Studio & Gallery

Suite 128, 290-7858, will feature new paintings by students, along with Priscilla Wyatt’s works. Snacks will be available. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

North Bend

Colette’s  

3229 Broadway Ave., suites Hand I, 751-1475, will exhibit  photography by Mike Holm and serve refreshments.

Coos Head Food Store

1960 Sherman Ave., 756-7264, will celebrate Earth Day with samples of organic wines from True Earth and Agrinatura. Food samples will be made from organic dairy products by Strauss. Strauss Dairy was the first organic dairy west of the Mississippi. Sweet Creek Foods from Elmira will be featured, with samples for several products made with fresh local and regional organic produce. Abstract paintings by Liz Youngker are on display from Studio Nine. Youngker uses recycled items for her paintings, such as ridged insulation, a table cloth, a yoga mat and a rug. EZ of REZ will be at Coos Head Food Store playing in Drop D tuning on acoustic guitar.

Crystal Dolphin Gallery

1901 Sherman Ave., 756-1989, will feature Robert McHaney’s exhibit “Gnome Homes and Gnome Birdhouses.” McHaney collects natural items during woodland walks and uses them in these creations. There also will be Crystal Dolphin’s “Stuff Your Own Mushrooms.”

Easy Lane Frames & Select Art Gallery

3440 Broadway Ave., 756-7638, will host the opening reception for featured artist Carolyn LeGrand. Her show will feature modern expressionist paintings and contains vivid and contrasting color, symbolism and expression of feeling, a press release said. LeGrand will be at the gallery from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The works of 46 other South Coast artists also will be on display.

Epiphany & Co.

1989 Sherman Ave., 756-7900, in the Historic Odd Fellows Building, will feature work by Clayton Redwood, Janne LaValle, Jack Richards and Stan Fullerton. Marilyn Schmidt’s stained glass windows how are installed. From 7 to 9 p.m., there will be swing dance lessons in Epiphany’s Ballroom. The cost is $6.

Gallery by the Bay

2100 Union Ave., lower floor of Unity by the Bay, 751-1633. The gallery will re-open for the season during Artwalk, from 5 to 7 p.m. Carolyn LeGrand, an instructor at the Boys and Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon, will show an array of pieces created by her students, as well as her own work. The gallery’s hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Refreshments will be served.

The Framery

1774 Union Ave., 756-0797, will showcase works of photo journalist Roy Musitelli, who photographs South Western Oregon and Northern California.

North Bend library

1800 Sherman Ave., 156-0400, will feature Carol L. Young’s art in the conference room through April. She is a  botanist, and her love for flowers shows in her watercolor and pen-and-ink art, a press release said. She also paints landscapes, nature scenes, ocean scenes and waterfalls. She also wrote, illustrated and self-published the book “What Grows Here?: Mountain Gardening in Northern California.”

Oregon Coast School of Music

2055 Union Ave. and 2660 Sherman Ave., 756-4171, will feature oil paintings by Keith Russett and jazz music by Snowball’s Chance from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

1955 Union Ave. Visitors can enjoy a free 8-ounce latté and changing displays of local art.

Coos Art Museum

235 Anderson Ave., will be feature the art exhibits 2008 Biennial Student Art Exhibit and Vision 2008. These exhibits are free to the public and run through Saturday. More than 1,200 works by students from 23 area schools are on display for the Coos Art Museum’s 2008 Biennial Student Art Exhibit. Vision 2008 features high school students from throughout the region.

Java Jones Coffee House

757 Newmark Ave., Empire, 888-4477, will feature the oil and acrylic art of Ermie Goodrich and new showings of raku pottery by Laurie Lee. Musician Bill York will provide acoustic guitar and vocal music throughout the evening. There also will be an open artists workshop where any artist can come in and draw, paint or work on other art. All artists are welcome. Unique refreshments will be served.

Siren Song

135 Anderson Ave., 266-9988, is in a new location in downtown Coos Bay, next to the Pottery Co. The featured artist is Tamarah Phillips.
