Joe Neill will teach family canoeing classes on April 12 and 26.

The Williani council of Camp Fire U.S.A. is donating canoes for the two classes. The six-hour program will cover safety, equipment, transporting a canoe, controlling a canoe, strokes, knots and terminology. Participants need to be able to swim, must be accompanied by an adult if under 18 and must be at least 3 feet tall. There will be some lecture and several hours of hands-on experience.

Those who successfully complete the class will have improved judgment about their skills and will be able to safely and comfortably control a canoe in flat water while paddling solo. There is a $5 fee per participant, paid to the American Canoe Association for insurance. Class size is limited to six canoes.

For more information, or to sign, those interested can call Joe Neill at the Electric Hospital at 267-2241, e-mail electrichospital@charter.net or visit the Electric Hospital at 988 S. Broadway Ave., Coos Bay.
