The small Jewish village of Anatevka, Russia, home to a tight-knit community of peasants, is the setting for New Artists Productions’ spring stage presentation, Broadway Junior’s “Fiddler on the Roof Junior.” The musical takes place in 1905 and is concerned primarily with the efforts of a poor dairyman, Tevye, his wife, Golde, and their five daughters to cope with their harsh existence under tsarist rule.

“Fiddler on the Roof Junior” will be presented April 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13, at The Sprague Community Theater. Friday and Saturday shows will be at 7 p.m., and Sunday matinees will be at 2 p.m. The show is directed by Dan and Anita Almich, founders of New Artists Productions.

The cast of 26 young actors, ages 7 to 18, will bring the audience on a journey through life in Anatevka, according to a press release. The journey outlines life’s triangle formed by the traditions of the Jewish faith, the love of family and the subtle changes occurring within the family and village because of the outside influences.

Teyve is played by Cody Waddington and Golde is played by Clarissa Castaldi. Teyve’s five daughters are played by Hope and Zeta Hay, Tessa Fuller, Jeneveve Winchell and Autumn Moss-Strong. Also playing supporting roles are Liza-May Skeie, Destyni Fuller, Robin Hill, Russel and Josiah Hay, Larkin Madden, Chelsea Hill, Thaddeus Miller, Linzi Silburn, Katheryn Sands, Rose Garrett, Jordan and Hayley Chandler, Megan Hultin, Mercedese Mannon, Sarah Skeie, Alaina Russell and Darby and Max Underdown.

Tickets are available from Bandon True Value Hardware, Chetco Federal Credit Union, by calling 347-2517, or at the door on show nights. Prices are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, and $5 for students and children.

For more information about the play or the New Artists Productions program, those interested can call the Almichs at 347-2517.

Best show of 2008 wrote on Apr 13, 2008 8:50 PM:

What an excellent run of the shows!!!! Thanks again to the families, kids, and Almichs. I look forward to the next show with great excitement.

Coquille wrote on Apr 12, 2008 8:05 AM:

We came over from Coquille last night to see the play and it was excellent. What a group of talented young people! The set, costumes & talent are some of the best I have seen. It took my reading the program to know that Motel was a girl. I really liked where Motel called his new bride just like Papa called his wife. It made me laugh. Thank you all!

Parent of the Cast wrote on Apr 7, 2008 9:36 PM:

I wanted to thank the Almichs for guiding our children down this wonderful path in their lives. They have spent many hours with these kids and it definitely shows. Also I want to thank the parents and others who volunteered with costumes, as stage hands, and doing makeup. No matter what future these kids may choose, they will take these wonderful memories with them. Thanks again.

Amazing Talent wrote on Apr 7, 2008 4:47 PM:

Wow, what amazing talent we have on the South Coast. These young actors blew me away, especially Tevye and the young daughter at the train station. Wonderful job by the Almichs, thank for all your hard work.

This was such an excellent show. Thank
you to everyone who helped in any way.
Of course, the play was amazing, but,so
was the costumes and set design. I loved
it, and will come to more that you have
there in the future!

Excellent show! An outstanding performance by all the actors. What a wonderful job by Tevye, a very, very talented young man!

Living in Arizona and being away from my Grandchildren I did not get to see the play. But speaking as a proud Grandma way to go Hay children and the rest of the cast. They continue in the foot steps of my son, who rocked the small town of Sierra Vista and stages in Italy with his fine performances. What fond memories this brings back!!!!!

Who was the young girl playing the daughter who left for Siberia? Wow, does she got a great voice. The entire cast did an excellent job, but watch out for that girl.....one day you will be able to say I knew her when...

This is the best amateur production of Fiddler I've ever seen! The vocal talent and acting is amazing. The kids give it their all and it shows. Hats off to New Artists and their cast!

We just got home from seeing the show and it was excellent! The kids really did a great job. Everyone come support our local talent. There are still five more performances.

I've heard some of these kids sing during the variety show. They are very talented kids. Look Out American Idol here comes the real stars.

jroberts wrote on Apr 3, 2008 1:46 PM:

Excellent group of little actors. I've heard several of them sing like angels. I saw several of these kids perform the last show and I tell you what......they can stand up to the best of the adult shows we have seen. Great job to the Almichs, parents, and kids.

I saw the dress rehersal last night and I tell you this is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. You definitely do not want to miss this one.
