The following events and activities are scheduled this week and next on the South Coast.

Friday

Winewalk fundraiser

Winewalk will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in downtown Coos Bay. The event is coordinated by The World. Wine glasses will be on sale for $10, with proceeds to benefit Star of Hope and Lighthouse School.

Winewalk will start at Express Blinds & Beyond at 147 S. Broadway. Participants will purchase a wine glass and move on a self-guided tour. For information, those interested can call Cindy Rawlings at 269-1222, ext. 289.

This weekend

Hospice benefit sale

A benefit sale for the South Coast Hospice Building Fund will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Blossom Gulch Elementary School, 333 S. 10th St., Coos Bay.   

There will be antiques, furniture, books, electronics and more.

Horseback riding

The Seafood Ride, hosted by the Coos County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse, will be held on Saturday at the North Spit of Coos Bay. Sign ups begin at 9 a.m., and the ride begins at 10. Participants can meet at the turn-around spot at the end of TransPacific Lane.

There will be a potluck after the ride on site, weather providing, or at the Posse building in Hauser.

Coos Bay book sale

The Friends of the Coos Bay Public Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the library, 525 Anderson Ave.

There will be a member presale at 9 a.m. Saturday. Most books will be 25 cents each, but there will be a special half-price sale on Sunday.

Book sale proceeds fund special programs for children and adults. They also help buy books, equipment and other items to supplement the library budget.

Mr. Bulldog pageant

Nine North Bend High School senior boys will compete Saturday night in the 12-annual Mr. Bulldog Pageant. The pageant is an effort to raise money for “Kid’s Helping Kids,” a program of the Children’s Miracle Network.

The event begins at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium, 2323 Pacific Ave. Tickets cost $9 for adults, $6 for students, and children 5 and younger get in free. Tickets can be purchased through the North Bend Athletic Department by calling 751-7159.

Contributions go directly to the neonatal intensive care unit at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene.

Next week

VFW to meet

VFW Post 7488 invites people who have served in the military and were in a combat area such as World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan or any other conflict, to join the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Post 7488 will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday at Gussie’s restaurant, 1088 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay.
