Condors, the largest flying land birds in North America, will be the topic of a free slide show and lecture, “Columbia Condor: Forgotten Giant of the Sky,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave.
Speaker David Moen, a research associate for the Oregon Zoo’s condor recovery program, will review the fossil evidence and legends that indicate the condor’s historic presence in Oregon. He also will discuss the zoo’s contemporary recovery efforts including its captive condor breeding program.
A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.
The program is presented by Coos Historical & Maritime Museum, located at 1220 Sherman Ave., North Bend. The museum is operated by the not-for-profit Coos County Historical Society and covers the diverse history of the Coos region and southern coastal Oregon.
