The following events and activities are planned on the South Coast this week and next.
Thursday
School fundraiser
The annual Jan-Hil Preschool Spaghetti Feed and Carnival fundraiser will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2160 Elm Ave., Reedsport.
Admission will be $6 for adults, $4 for children or $20 for a family. The meal will include spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, drinks and dessert. Carnival tickets will be on sale for 4 for $1. Games in the mini-carnival will include a beanbag toss, fishpond and more. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match up to $600 of the proceeds.

Parenting classes
Highlands Baptist Church, at 2500 Longwood Drive in Reedsport, is hosting a five-week long parenting course entitled Parenting Today’s Kids.
The curriculum offers lessons ranging from “Parenting from Your Strengths” to “Creating Special Playtime with Your Children,” using video.
The course meets at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday starting this week through May 1. The cost for the course is $5 per person or $7 per couple. For more information and to register, those interested can call Todd Young at (541) 271-4406.
Genealogy club
The Coquille Valley Genealogy Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Myrtle Point.
The group will gather in the meeting room at the Flora M. Laird Memorial Library, 435 Fifth St. Members will view a DVD of the logging museum, followed by a time of sharing and a work session.
Friday
Church rummage sale
Emmanuel Episcopal Church will hold its semi-annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday; and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday in Coos Bay.
The sale will be held at the church at the Fourth Street and Highland Avenue intersection.
Proceeds will benefit THE House, the Waterfall Community Health Center, the Women’s Safety and Resource Center, the Ecumenical Food Cupboard, the Pregnancy Resource Center, Habitat for Humanity, Hospice and Christmas outreach.
Senior computer club
The topic of the next Bay Area Seniors’ Computer Club will be “Pictures to Computer,” by Jim Fay. He will explain how to transfer pictures to the computer at the meeting at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 4, in Coos Bay.
Doors open at 9:30 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road. Refreshments will be available.
The group meets twice-monthly to provide speakers who talk about topics associated with computing. Meetings are held on the first and third Fridays of the month at 10 a.m.

Sherry Chestnut will teach participants how to make bread. Cassie Bouska will sing, and Nancy Reed of Union will be the guest speaker. Free nursery will be provided by request.

WorkNet is a live forum where employers announce job openings and job seekers highlight their skills and abilities, a press release said. Doors will open at 7 a.m. The forum begins promptly at 7:30 and ends at 8:45 a.m. WorkNet is facilitated by South Coast Business Employment Corporation.

College night
High School College Night will be held at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, at the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus, 1988 Newmark Ave., in Coos Bay.
The event’s purpose is to prepare high school students for college or university studies. The free event is open to all high school students and their parents/guardians.
Keynote speaker will be David McDonald, associate provost of Western Oregon University.

Woodcarving show
The South Coast Woodcarvers 17th-annual Show and Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, at the North Bend Community Center, 2222 Broadway Ave.
Admission is free. The show will feature more then 40 woodcarvers from throughout the Pacific Northwest, including 15 Coos Bay and North Bend club members and some nationally recognized artists. Activities will include demonstrations by carving experts; a people’s choice contest; carvings, supplies, books and tools for sale; and a raffle table featuring carvings, books and tools. The raffle drawing will be held Sunday afternoon, and people need not be present to win.
The featured artist will be Leland Simpson of Coquille. He carves a variety of wildlife, with special interest in wooden chains and other unique items.
Lakeside book sale
The Friends of Lakeside Library will hold a spring book sale and library open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the Lakeside Senior Center, 915 North Lake Road, behind the library.
The books will cost 10 cents to $1, and there will be lots of westerns, children’s books and romance novels. For more information, those interested can call the library at 759-4432.
Dahlia sale
The Southern Oregon Dahlia Society’s annual dahlia tuber sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the Pony Village Mall, 1611 Virginia Ave., North Bend.
Society members will be on hand to answer questions and help those interested choose from more than 150 varieties.
The society meets at 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month, in the Myrtlewood Room of the Coos Bay Public Library, 525 Anderson Ave.
