Portions of two Coos Bay streets were closed for hours Saturday morning, after a Honda Civic struck and split a Verizon telephone pole.

According to a Coos Bay Police Department press log, at approximately 7:05 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle crashing into a telephone pole near the intersection of Koosbay Boulevard and Teakwood Avenue.

Police Department spokeswoman Helen Thompson said the pole was snapped off at the bottom when it was hit by the 1993 Honda Civic, driven by Taylor Stuart, 22, of Coos Bay, and was suspended only by guy wires. She said Coos Bay Police closed the southbound lane of Teakwood Avenue and the northbound lane of Pine Avenue, until staff from Verizon could arrive on scene.

Stuart was cited with driving while suspended and driving uninsured.

A spokesman for Verizon said his repair crew was called out about 7:30 a.m. to the accident and replaced the pole. The roadway was re-opened by about 1:30 p.m., he said.

Sunday crash in Coos Bay

City property was damaged Sunday, in a single-vehicle, roll-over crash.

According to a Coos Bay Police Department press log, at approximately 12:13 a.m., police received multiple calls of an accident on Newmark Avenue. There they found a Ford Explorer operated by Coos Bay resident Matthew R. Pascarelli, 28, had hit a planter near the intersection of Newmark Avenue and Wall Street. A Coos Bay Police Department spokeswoman said the sports utility vehicle rolled over when it struck the planter.

Pascarelli was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants and was taken to the Coos County jail. He was released on citation on Sunday.

Cape Arago Highway rollover

A Coos Bay woman was injured Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on Cape Arago Highway.

According to an Oregon State Police incident log, at about 4:49 p.m., a 1997 Oldsmobile Silhouette van was attempting a left turn near milepost 6.5, when it struck a 2007 Toyota.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, Sunrize C. Morris, 24, of Klamath Falls, was given a dangerous left-turn citation. Morris was uninjured in the crash. The driver of the Toyota, Lynn M. Generos, 49, was taken to Bay Area Hospital, police said.

No further information on Generos’ condition was available by press time.

Well said Another View! I couldn't agree more. This town is full of negligent and/or drunk drivers. It's getting completely out of control.

What do you know, another accident involving a stupid drunk driver.
At least the planter boxes can't drive drunk, this raises their appeal considerably.
