At the March 16 Feral Cat Coalition clinic sponsored by Friends of Animals’ With Needs, 102 cats were spayed or neutered, bringing the total to 1,442 spay/neuters since FAWN and FCCO began these clinics in 1999. This represents a serious stop toward curbing our local feral cat population.

FAWN never loses sight of the fact that these clinics would be an impossibility without the generous cooperation of our local veterinarians and vet techs.

A very special thank you goes to eight great veterinarians: Drs. Lisa Cornell, Joe Snyder, Trish Roisum and Dr. Amy Nicholson, from Myrtle Veterinarian Hospital; Dr. Donald Baum and Dr. Ron Vered from Bandon Veterinarian Hospital; and Dr. Matt Dixon from Hanson Animal Hospital; and Dr. Adela New.

Five wonderful veterinary technicians assisted the vets: Nicole Schmidt, Nancy Orr and Betsy Messerle, from Myrtle Veterinarian Hospital; Stacie Hughes and Nancy Sperandio.

I also want to thank the other exceptional volunteers who pitched in to do whatever was required to make the clinic a real success. Believe me, some of the jobs are not glamorous. Hats off to cage and trap cleaners, as well as to the volunteers at the post-op, recovery and registration.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church of Coquille opened its doors to host this clinic when the Community Center was unavailable. Their graciousness is appreciated.

Thanks to all for their hard work. I hope to see everyone at the second clinic on July 13. For the fist time, FAWN/FCCO will add a third yearly clinic one Oct. 5.
