Brookings seeks applicants for council vacancy

Applications are being accepted to fill the Brookings City Council Position No. 2, which was vacated March 10, when Larry Anderson was appointed mayor. The vacated term will expire Jan. 12, 2009. This is a volunteer, unpaid position and will be filled by appointment.

Interested applicants must have lived within the city limits for the 12 months immediately preceding April 14.

The Council will interview all eligible applicants during its meeting on April 14. After being sworn in, the new member will fill the vacant seat that same evening.

In addition to attending monthly meetings, council members are expected to serve as liaisons to various local, county and state organizations and agencies.

Applications may be picked up at the Administrative Services Department located in city hall, 898 Elk Drive. They are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Applications also may be downloaded from the city’s Web site at http://www.brookings.or.us.

Completed applications and a cover letter need to be returned to the city manager’s office at city hall. The deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4.

Brookings committee openings


The city of Brookings is accepting applications for the following committee and commission positions:


* Planning Commission Position No. 2 and No. 3, expiring 4-year terms, ending April 2012;


* Parks and Recreation Position No. 6, vacant 4-year term, ending February. 2009;


* Traffic Safety Committee Position No. 1, vacant 1-year term, ending March 2009;


* Traffic Safety Committee Position No. 2, vacant 2-year term , ending March 2010; and


* Traffic Safety Committee Position No. 3, expiring 3-year term, ending March 2011.


Those interested in the openings can pick up an application at City Hall or download one from the city’s Web site at http://www.brookings.or.us. Positions will remain open until filled, however, the Mayor and Council can fill an appointment at any time.


Return completed applications to the City Manager’s Office, City Hall, 898 Elk Drive, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. For more information, those interested can call (541) 469-1102.
