The following meetings and activities are planned Tueday on the South Coast.

The Daughters of the Nile will meet at a time to be announced at Coney Station, 295 S. Broadway, Coos Bay. Daughters of the Nile is a philanthropic women’s organization made up of relatives of Shriners. The local club sews, sends toys and sends children’s magazine subscriptions to the Portland and Honolulu Shrine hospitals. For a meeting time, those interested can call 888-0805.

Vintage car club members from various groups get together on the first Tuesday of each month at Tower Ford. For details and a meeting time, those interested can call Joe Bradley at 260-1940.

TOPS OR No. 300 will meet at 9 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 2420 Sherman Ave., in North Bend. Weigh-in will begin at 8 and the meeting starts at 9:30. TOPS is a nonprofit organization that helps individuals control weight through education, awareness and support. For more information, those interested can call Bobbie Hibbert at 756-4481.

Blood pressure tests will be offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the North Bend Senior Center, 1470 Airport Lane. For more information, those interested can call 756-7622.

A food handler class will be offered at 1 p.m. in room 6 in Sitkum Hall, at Southwestern Oregon Community College, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay. Those taking the test should prepare by reading “Food Safety: Your Self-training Manual,” available for $2 at the Coos County Health Department-North Bend Annex or at local libraries. A diabetes education review class will meet from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Bay Area Hospital, 1775 Thompson Road, Coos Bay. Participants should check with the front desk on the first floor of the hospital for exact locations. Bridge players will gather at 12:30 p.m. at the North Bend Senior Center, 1470 Airport Lane.

Reedsport-area Democrats will meet at 5 p.m. at  Bedrock’s Pizzeria on 2165 Winchester Ave., Reedsport. The presidential primary race will be discussed as well as plans for the upcoming fall election. For more information, those interested can call Richard at (541) 271-9512.

Miss Coos County Outstanding Teen Contestant Ashlee Garton-Rutland will present a lecture on the prevention of cruelty to animals at 5:30 p.m in the large meeting room at the North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave. Garton-Rutland will present facts about the prevalence of animal cruelty in the community and on the national level.  

Everyone At the Table will provide low-income families with dinners from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Bandon First Presbyterian Church, 592 Edison Ave. Donations for E.A.T. are appreciated for the nonprofit, equal opportunity provider. TOPS No. 114, North Bend, will meet at 6 p.m. at the Church of Christ, just off Broadway on Alder Ridge Road. TOPS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to losing weight sensibly. For more information, those interested can call 267-2965 or 266-0547.

Sea Breeze Chorus will hold rehearsals at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 123 Ocean Blvd., in Coos Bay. Women of all ages who enjoy singing are invited to attend the rehearsals to learn about the barbershop style of four-part harmony. Tuesday Bingo
at Coos Bay Eagles No. 538  will begin at 6:30 p.m. The lodge is located at 568 S. Second St., Coos Bay.

Reedsport’s Christmas in July Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Reedsport Church of God, 2191 Birch Ave., in Reedsport. The group’s mission is to preserve and revitalize houses in the community, assuring that low-income homeowners live in warmth, safety and independence. Point Man Ministries, an outreach group for local veterans, active-duty personnel and families since 1988, will meet at 7 p.m. at Sobers, 181 Anderson Ave., in Coos Bay. For more information, those interested can call Mike Harris at 267-4755 or e-mail mekong152@charter.net.  



The Coquille Valley Elks
will meet at 7 p.m. at the lodge, 54942 Maple Heights Road, in Coquille. Dinner is served from 5 to 7 p.m.

Hot meals for seniors: Bay Area Senior Activity Center offers soups, salads, entrées and desserts at 11:30 a.m. each day except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Cost is $3.50 for BASAC members, $4 for non-members. The resale shop is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. BASAC is located at 886 S. Fourth St., Coos Bay. The North Bend Senior Center luncheon program is available to everyone, not just seniors. Buffet-style meals are available from 11:45 a.m. until everyone is served, Monday through Friday. Meals cost $5 and monthly menus are available. For more information, those interested can call 756-7622.
