Speed limit on McCullough Bridge to lower

It’s no joke. By April 1, the speed limit for motorists crossing McCullough Bridge will have been reduced from 45 to 35 miles per hour.
Oregon Department of Transportation construction specialist Ted Bennison said the new signs would go up Monday night. By Tuesday, there also will be steel plates in the road to allow work crews to replace deck drains at the south end of the bridge.
The reduced speed limit is intended as a safety precaution, said ODOT spokesman Jared Castle, but it’s not the only reason to drive more slowly.
“At 35, you will feel a noticeable bump,” going over the steel plates, he said. “At 55, it could take you out of your seat.”
The reduced speed limit will be in effect until further notice, while the steel plates should be off the roadway after a week’s time.
