Special Olympians earn bronze medals

The South Coast Runnin Rebels five-on-five basketball team took home a bronze medal at the Special Olympics state tournament at Springfield on March 7-9.
The Rebels are coached by Marty Hoffman with team members including Jamie Daniels, Larry Gregory, Jason Miller, Stephanie Nix, Nick Pearce, Alan Thegg, Mary Thegg and Apollo Truelove. Daniel Jackson — who was injured prior to the tournament — was a reserve player.
The South Coast Rock Stars, which competed in the three-on-three division, also took home a bronze medal. The Rock Stars are coached by Adam Stanfield, and team members include: Greg Chew, Leah Goché, Bruce Mueller and Jesse Venegas.
Coach Matt Baker’s South Coast Rockets also took home a bronze medal, in the three-on-three division. Rocket team members included: Matthew Bruckert, Daren Jenkins, Rose Saposnick, Johnny Waller and Tyler Wideman.
In the individual skills portion of the weekend, Cathy Caldera finished in fourth place. Caldera is coached by Becca Scholari.
Robin and Rick Goché, Assu Cassarotti and Christina Waller are each volunteer assistant coaches for the program. |
