The Coos Soil and Water Conservation District held their 47th-annual meeting and awards ceremony on Feb. 28, at the Coos County Annex in Coquille.

At the meeting, Rick, Shilo and Morgan McKenzie of McKenzie Livestock, LLC, in Sixes received the award for 2007 Cooperator of the Year.

Guest speaker Sam Dement of Myrtle Point talked about the early history of the Dement family from 1851 as they moved west by covered wagon, taking two years before they settled in Coos County.
