Prep Recap for March 25: Madras sweeps Pirates

Madras swept visiting Marshfield in a nonleague baseball doubleheader Monday, winning the opener 18-5 and the nightcap 8-3.
Adam Reed had a single and double for the Pirates. Gatlon Giorgis and Levi Meline drove in runs for the Pirates.
Josh Farrester and Rod Smith each had two doubles and two RBIs for Madras. Turner Gill had a single, double, triple and three RBIs.
In the nightcap, Darrel Ceciliani had a double, triple and home run for the White Buffaloes, driving in three runs.
The Pirates are scheduled to play North Bend on Wednesday in a 4:30 p.m. game, weather permitting. The site for the game will be determined on Wednesday. It is scheduled for North Bend, but might be moved to Marshfield because of ongoing construction on the dugouts at Clyde Allen Field.
Waldport tops Reedsport
Waldport got a four-hitter by pitcher Tyler Cody and beat visiting Reedsport 4-2 on Monday.
Jeff King had a double and drove in two runs for the Irish.
The Braves got a good effort from sophomore pitcher Josh Palmer in his first outing. Palmer struck out five and gave up three walks.
“He pitched very well,”said Reedsport coach Todd Harrington. “He’s just a sophomore. It was his very first time on the mound and he pitched well. Travis Leach came in and did a good job in relief.”
Lions tip Vikings
Cottage Grove edged visiting Siuslaw 3-2, scoring the winning run on an RBI single by Cameron Dixon in the sixth inning.
The Vikings tied the game with two runs in the fifth. Zach Laxague and Drew Rainwater each hit doubles for Siuslaw.
SOFTBALL
Irish edge Braves
Reedsport was unable to complete a late comeback bid as host Waldport held on for a 4-3 nonleague win Monday.
The Irish scored two runs in each of the first two innings and then held on as the Braves scored twice in the sixth inning and once more in the seventh.
Kirsten Tharp struck out nine batters to pick up the win for Waldport. |
