Andrea Tison won the No. 3 singles match, North Bend’s only victory against Junction City in a nonleague tennis match on Friday.

Tison beat Hannah Nelson 6-3, 6-3.

“Andrea did a wonderful job,” said North Bend coach Simmie Muth. “She kept the ball alive. She was very consistent.”

Mallory Crocker and Kaja Gresko each won the first set of their match for the Bulldogs before losing the other two.

The young team continues to make strides, Muth said.

“They are making improvement,” she said.

Muth hopes the team benefits from nearly two weeks practice before its next match.

Dancers help Pirates

Marshfield got a big boost from its dance team members, who were part of both wins in a 6-2 loss to Junction City.

Leslie Silver, in her first match of the season, teamed with Nicole Zyta for a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles for the Pirates. Two more dancers, Nikki Gross and Chloe Danielson, combined for a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

“Having them there, the other girls get to see them play, and they see them successful and they want to play harder,” said Marshfield coach Angie Kemp. “They have a want to do better.

“I’m excited.”
