Playing short-handed, North Bend’s boys tennis team couldn’t match up evenly with host Grants Pass and fell 7-1 in a nonleague match Thursday.
The Bulldogs were without their top singles player and one of their top doubles players.
The Bulldogs got their win at No. 5 singles, where Jeramy Dubisar beat James Van Horne 8-2.
“Jeramy Dubisar played great to grind out our only win,” said North Bend coach Dustin Hood.
The doubles team of Chris Cipolla and Nathan Kahler stretched its match to three sets, losing a 10-8 super set tiebreaker. The North Bend duo of Travis Bernardini and Adam Escoto lost both its sets in tiebreakers.
Both Cody Ferguson, North Bend’s top singles player, and Taylor Strand, part of the top doubles pairing, were ill and unable to play.

Pirates rained out
Marshfield led Siuslaw by a run in the fourth inning when rain stopped their nonleague game at Florence on Thursday.
The Pirates led 3-2 and had two runners on base when the umpires called the game.
A rain delay had earlier paused the game in the second inning.
The Pirates are scheduled to host Cottage Grove in a doubleheader on Saturday. |
