The following activities are scheduled this month and next on the South Coast.
Friday Bay Area computer clubWii, the interactive game machine, will be demonstrated at the Bay Area Seniors’ Computer Club regular meeting on Friday. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and the meeting will start at 10at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road, Coos Bay. Refreshments will be available.
June Willoughby will demonstrate the system. Games on the program include bowling and golf.
The group meets twice-monthly to provide speakers who talk about topics associated with computing. Meetings are held on the first and third Fridays of the month at 10 a.m.

Egyptian Theatre movieThe historic Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay shows classic movies each weekend. On the marquee Friday is “Grand Canyon” (1991). It features veteran actors Danny Glover, Steve Martin, Alfre Woodard and others, and has nothing to do with the actual Grand Canyon. Instead, the gap caused by cultures and classes is bridged by friendship in Los Angeles.
The show starts at 7 p.m. General admission is $4, $3.50 for seniors and those 12 and under, and $3 for members.
Saturday Clothes giveawayA clothes giveaway will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Lakeside Lions Hall, 890 Bowron Road. Volunteers are welcome, as well as good, used shoes and clothes donations. Clothes and nonperishable food items can be dropped off at the Indoor Crafters’ Mall, 158 Central Ave., in Coos Bay.

Square dance clubSets in Order Square and Round Dance club will host a dance on Saturday, with Coleeta Quigley and Denise Harris. Pre-rounds begin at 7:30 p.m., with square dancing at 8, at the Coquille Community Center, 115 N. Birch.
Next week Senior dancingGene Valerio, Frosty West, Bob Richardson, Dean Conyers and Clell Laird will perform at the senior dance at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Evergreen Court, 451 O’Connell St., in North Bend. Refreshments will be served, and admission is free. Dances are held on the last Wednesday of each month. For more information, those interested can call Tammy Trost at 756-4466.
Food handler class
A food handler class will be offered at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at the Ohlsen-Baxter Building, 631 Alder St., Myrtle Point.
Those taking the test should prepare by reading “Food Safety: Your Self-training Manual,” available for $2 at the Coos County Health Department-North Bend Annex or at local libraries.
Those who pass the exam and pay the $10 fee will be issued a food handler card. The class is sponsored by Coos County Public Health. To register and for more information, those interested can call 756-2020 ext. 643.
Next month Jerky-making classThe Family Food Education Volunteers of Oregon State University Extension Service will present a workshop on making healthy snacks using dehydrated foods. The class will demonstrate safe and delicious ways to dehydrate fruits and vegetables, and will be making beef jerky, too.
Workshop participants will meet 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, at the Oregon State University Extension office, the Ohlsen-Baxter building, 631 Alder St., Myrtle Point. “Jerky! Dry Up and Stow Away!” will cost $7.
OSU certified preservation volunteers provide low-cost workshops for the community on a monthly basis. For information on this and other upcoming workshops, those interested can call the Coos County Extension office at 572-5263, ext. 240, or (800) 730-4978.
