Frasier sets two records for Lakers

Francesca Frasier set two more school records and several teammates won events for the Southwestern Oregon Community College track team at the Frank Haskins Invite at George Fox University on Saturday.

Frasier, who established the school record in the steeplechase last week, set a new mark in the 1,500 meters with her time of 5 minutes, 9.60 seconds, and then came back to clock a time of 19:29.30 in the 5,000 meters to break that mark as well. She finished seventh in a tough field in the 5,000 and eighth in the 1,500.

Meanwhile, teammates Jasmine Scott, Ernest Rickett and Sammie Young all won events in the meet, which included six four-year schools.

Scott won the 100 meters with a time of 13.18 seconds and also finished fifth in the 100 high hurdles, finishing in 16.21.

Rickett was a double-winner for Southwestern’s men in the 200, with a time of 22.47, and in the 400, with a mark of 50.79.

Young won the 110-meter high hurdles with a season-best time of 15.97 and also broke 1 minute in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles for the first time this year, finishing second in 59.05. He also finished 10th in the triple jump (35-6) and 17th in the long jump (17-11⁄4).

The Laker men’s and women’s teams each finished fifth behind four-year schools. George Fox was first for the women, with Linfield first for the men. Puget Sound, Pacific, Lewis & Clark, Warner Pacific and Central Washington also were included in the meet.

Among other top finishers for Southwestern, Garrett Fischer was second in the shot put with a mark of 44 feet, 83⁄4 inches, and Paul Guffy was second in the javelin with a season-best throw of 181-7.

Justin Gannon was seventh in the javelin (151-4), fourth in the triple jump (40-83⁄4) and 16th in the long jump (17-63⁄4).

Tyler Leman tied for third in the high jump, clearing 5-10, and also was eighth in the triple jump (38-23⁄4).

Tyrel Akers was ninth in the triple jump (37-21⁄4) and 13th in the long jump (17-11) while also finishing eight in the 400 (54.25) and 16th in the 800 (2:06.11).

Andrew Scott was fourth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:13.56, while also finishing 19th in the 800 (2:07.18). Travis Clark was ninth in the 1,500 (4:29.16), 24th in the 800 (2:19.50) and 12th in the 400 (1:01.38). Peter Becker was 20th in the 800 (2:09.20), while Daniel McArthur was 12th in the 1,500 (4:45.02) and 14th in the 5,000 (18:30.24).

Also in the 400, Jimmy Billstine was ninth (56.11) and Casey Gleason was 11th (58.80). Billstine was 18th in the long jump (16-71⁄4). Chris Garland was 13th in the 400 hurdles (1:04.79)

Kevin Weidemann was seventh in the shot put (38-83⁄4) and 11th in the hammer (102-11). Ben Carnahan was 12th in the shot put (32-71⁄2), 13th in the javelin (113-8) and 14th in the discus (89-1).

Pat Fennimore was 11th in the discus (99-0) and 12th in the javelin (127-7).

Southwestern’s team of Young, Akers, Fennimore and Rickett finished third in the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.54. The same group was sixth in the 4x400 relay in 3:32.83.

For Southwestern’s women, Brandie Kimball was second in the discus (101-10), fifth in the shot put (29-91⁄2 ) and 10th in the javelin (85-3).

Kacey Orr took third in the high jump (4-93⁄4 ) and was seventh in the javelin (101-8).

Latisha Barker finished fourth in the discus (93-10) and eighth in the javelin (100-1).

Kyla Iveans was ninth in the javelin (86-10), sixth in the triple jump (31-0) and 16th in the long jump (13-93⁄4 ).

Kamisha Abrahm finished eighth in the triple jump (30-11⁄2 ). Arianne Smith was 12th in the javelin (73-1).

On the track, Jessie Ward was sixth in the 800 (2:31.28) and 12th in the 1,500 (5:19.03). Abrahm was 11th in the 200 (30.07).

Southwestern finished fifth in both relays. The squad of Abrahm, Scott, Smith and Iveans was timed in 52.97 in the 4x100 relay, while the group of Scott, Abrahm, Ward and Frasier finished in 4:35.72 in the 4x400 relay.
