The Soroptimists’ fifth-annual Community Baby Shower brought a crowd to the Pony Village Mall in North Bend on Saturday with donations to help out new and expecting moms.
“It stays local,” said visitor Bobbie Black of the contributions.
“I like donating locally. We’re grandmothers. We like shopping for baby clothes," added Barbara Johnson.
Community members who brought donations of baby items or money to the mall and learned about the resources available locally for new or expecting mothers. The baby shower and year-round fundraising benefits Baby Closet, a Department of Human Resources program that distributes baby clothes and other supplies to families in need at the Newmark Center in Coos Bay. The baby shower is the program’s primary fundraiser, according to DHS Community Development Coordinator Gary Brink.
