The following are events and activities scheduled this weekend and next week on the South Coast.

All weekend

Egyptian Theatre

The “Rocky Horror Picture Show” (1975), rated R, returns at 9 tonight at the historic Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay. Susan Sarandon, Tim Curry and Barry Bostwick star in this cult-classic musical comedy and horror show parody about a young couple caught in the annual Transylvanian Convention.

“Continental Divide” (1981), rated PG, will play at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Ernie Souchak (John Belushi) is a Chicago reporter sent to Colorado to investigate an eagle researcher (Blair Brown). What he finds is love.

“Gypsy” (1962), not rated, will play at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Louise Hovick (Natalie Wood) achieves the fame her mother wanted, as stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, but the real struggle is the mother-daughter relationship.

The box office opens one hour before show times. General admission is $4, $3.50 for seniors and those 12 and under, and $3 for members.

Saturday

NBHS garage sale

The North Bend High School senior parent committee will hold a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the North Bend Middle school multi-purpose room.

All proceeds will go to the special events for the 2008 graduates, including the Safe & Sober all-night party.   

Business resource fair

The South Coast Employer Council will host a Business Resource Fair to provide businesses or start-up businesses with resources and tools they may not know are available.

The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday at the North Bend Community Center, 2222 Broadway St.

Body awareness class

A class on body awareness will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 438 Elrod Ave., in Coos Bay.

Easy stretching, yoga postures, qi gung and tai chi will be incorporated into a smooth, gentle program focusing on balance, breathing and posture. For more information, those interested can call Dee Hamil at 888-4946.

Miss Coos boot camp

A Miss Coos County Boot Camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, in the space next to Sears at the Pony Village Mall. It is mandatory for all teen contestants.

The Miss Coos County’s Outstanding Teen scholarship-based pageant is open to young ladies in Coos County between the ages of 13 and 17. They cannot be older than a junior in high school.

Monday

‘Songs of the Sea’

The Southwestern Oregon Community College Community Symphonic Choir will perform “Songs of the Sea” at 7 p.m. on Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Coos Bay, 438 Elrod Ave.

The night of music will be directed by Lorna Murphy with proceeds donated to the Women’s Safety & Resource Center. The center offers shelter, advocacy and referral services to victims of domestic violence in Coos County.

The concert is free. Donations will be matched up to $800 by Faith Lutheran Church.  

Wednesday

NB garden club

The North Bend Garden Club will meet at noon on Wednesday at the North Bend Housing Authority, 1700 Monroe Ave., North Bend.

Master Gardener Jo An Conway will present a program on “Growing Beautiful Dahlias.” For more information, those interested can call 756-2372.
