Thursday, March 6, 2008 12:04 PM PST
A Miss Coos County Boot Camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, at the Pony Village Mall, in the space across from Sears. It is mandatory for all teen contestants.
In conjunction with Miss Coos County, organizers are planning Miss Coos County’s Outstanding Teen, an affiliate of Miss America’s Outstanding Teen. The program is designed to “promote scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America’s Teens,” according to a press release.
The scholarship-based pageant is open to young ladies in Coos County between the ages of 13 and 17. They cannot be older than a junior in high school. The competition will be the same night as the Miss Coos County Pageant, April 12.
The competition is intended to encourage and reward scholastic achievement, communication skills, talent and community service, a press release said.
The teens will compete in interview, casual wear, evening wear and an on-stage question. The winner will compete in Seaside this summer, competing for the title of Oregon’s Outstanding Teen. She will receive a scholarship, a competition wardrobe and an all expense paid trip to Miss Oregon.
