The following events and activities are scheduled in South Coast communities in coming weeks.

Friday

Senior computer club

Bay Area Seniors’ Computer Club will hold a regular meeting on Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road, Coos Bay.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and the meeting will start at 10.

Margaret Wiggin, the club’s webmaster, will talk about the club’s Web site, as well as give a tour of it.  

Topics open for discussion will include how to navigate through the Web site, classes BASCC offers and finding available help.

The group meets twice-monthly to provide speakers who talk about topics associated with computing. Meetings are held on the first and third Fridays of the month at 10 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road, Coos Bay. Coquille book sale

The Coquille Library Friends spring book sale will be held Friday through Sunday in the large auditorium at the Coquille Community Center, 115 N. Birch.

The friends only preview sale will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday.  Memberships will be available at the door. The open sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Paperback books will be 50 cents, and hardcover books will be $1. Proceeds will go the New Library Building Fund.

Head Start fundraiser

Oregon Coast Community Action invites the community to a fun-filled, family event to benefit children throughout the South Coast.

Bowling for Kids — a fundraiser for Head Start classrooms in Coos and Curry counties will begin at noon Sunday at North Bend Lanes Bowling Center, 1225 Virginia Ave. in North Bend.

Community members, families, businesses and individuals are invited to attend the event and enter to win prizes or cheer from the sidelines. Each person or team will be required to provide a donation to Head Start on the day of the event, which can be sponsored by a local business or individual or raised through personal contributions. No minimum donation is required.

Self-exploration class

Beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday on Unity of Bandon will offer a discussion class based on spiritual teacher and author Eckhart Tolle’s latest book, “A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose.”  

This book also is the topic of a free online workshop with Oprah Winfrey and Eckhart Tolle which began on March 3. A New Earth is a course in self-exploration and spiritual awakening. Participants will be encouraged to identify self-defeating patterns within themselves that create unnecessary conflict and suffering.

Folk society sing-along

The South Coast Folk Society is inviting the community to a sing-along for vocalists of all ages and abilities at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, at Fiction 101 Books in the Tioga Building, 213 Broadway in downtown Coos Bay.

The “Rise Up Singing” songbooks have many kinds of songs, or participants can bring a song to share. Acoustic instruments are welcome. The singing will go to 6 p.m.  

The Second Sunday Sing-Along is a free monthly event occurring on the second Sunday of every month from 4 to 6 p.m. at Fiction 101 Books. The next sing-along will be on April 13.  For more information, those interested can call Gail at 756-4701.

Nan Forsberg-Hammons is the artist of the month for March at Coos Art Museum. The works in the exhibit show her ability to create vibrant, colorful and evocative paintings using a variety of mediums and subject matter, as well as using and combining diverse painting techniques, a press release said.
