CoastWatch lecture on life of sand
Monday, March 3, 2008 11:11 AM PST
CoastWatch and Honeyman State Park are joining forces to sponsor two slide talks and a beachwalk Tuesday in Florence.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the Siuslaw Public Library, 1460 Ninth St.
Marty Giles, who runs the interpretive guiding service Wavecrest Discoveries in Coos Bay and writes a nature column for The World, will provide a slide talk on “Sand.” The subject matter will cover “what sand is, where ours comes from, what it does while it’s here, and where it goes when it’s done.”
Also speaking will be State Parks botanist Noel Bacheller, whose talk will be devoted to “Oregon dune ecology: vegetation patterns, weeds and rare species.”
At about 11:30, the group will adjourn to the north jetty for a beachwalk led by both speakers. Those who plan to attend are encouraged to dress for the weather.
