South Coast readers often have different preferences in reading material than those elsewhere. Here are the top-five sellers this week at Books By the Bay in North Bend, according to owner Trish Price:

“The Winter Rose” by Jennifer Donnelly is historical fiction at its best. This is the sequel to the wildly popular “The Tea Rose.”

“The Book of General Ignorance” by John Lloyd is a No. 1 British bestseller. It reveals hugely entertaining misconceptions, mistakes and misunderstandings in common knowledge.

“The Appeal” by John Grisham: The title says it all … it has appeal. Another gritty courtroom blockbuster!

In “The Age of American Unreason” by Susan Jacoby, she dissects a new American cultural phenomenon — the addiction to infotainment, from television to the Web, which according to her press release “has resulted in a lazy and credulous public.”

“Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You” by Tony DiTerlizzi is a wonderful collection of faerie creatures from this beloved book series.
