Several theater groups and schools have plays on stage this weekend. Here's a brief listing.

College drama depicts rural life

Southwestern  Oregon Community College’s presentation of playwright Sam Shepard’s “A Lie of the Mind” opened this weekend on the Coos Bay campus.

The play continues through March 8 at the Hales Center for the Performing Arts, 1988 Newmark Ave. Curtain time is 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with a 3 p.m.  matinee on Sunday, March 2. General admission is $8; seniors $6, with complimentary admission to students. For reservations, those interested can call 888-7469.

Murder mystery at Myrtle Point High School

This weekend only, the Myrtle Point High School thespians present “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940.”

The show runs through Sunday at the school, 717 Fourth St. Performances are at 7:30 tonight and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5, $3 for students and seniors, and $10 for families.

Romantic comedy at Theatre 101, Port Orford

The curtain is once again up at Theatre 101 in Port Orford. The latest production, “Mixed Emotions” opens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the theater, 1320 Oregon St. The romantic comedy centers around Christine Millman (Dianne Antonio) and Herman Lewis (Rick Antonio), who are widowers in their sixties. Before the deaths of their spouses, the couples had been friends. She is Catholic; he is Jewish. She is in the process of moving to Florida, when Herman shows up on her doorstep and suggests they get married.

Tickets for opening night cost $25 and include a glass of wine and snacks. Additional performances will be  at 7:30 p.m.  March 1, 7-8, and at 2 p.m. March 2 and 9.

Sports musical at Little Theatre, North Bend

Little Theatre’s mid-winter musical ‘Damn Yankees’ closes this weekend. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m., with the Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.  

Advanced purchase discounts are available for seniors, students and children. All seats will cost $12 when purchased at the time of each show. The box office also will be open one hour prior to each performance for sales of remaining tickets. LTOB is located at 2100 Sherman Ave. The box office will be open today, Friday and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., and one hour before each show. No discounts will be applied during that hour.
