CB library contest targets young readers

Monday, February 25, 2008 |
The Coos Bay Public Library’s Independent Reading Program, Around the Library in 80 Days, will begin on March 4 and continue through May 22. This program is for students in preschool to the 12th grade.
This will be the 20th year that the program has been offered, bringing together the excitement of reading and the chance to win really great prizes.
Students keep track of their reading and/or listening over 80 days on a special form available from District 9 school libraries and the Coos Bay Public Library. Everyone will win a small prize after reading 400, 800, 1,200 and 1,600 pages or minutes. Everyone who finishes 1,600 receives a paperback book and a chance to win one of the larger prizes donated by Bay Area businesses and organizations. Students may enter more than once.
The large prizes will be displayed at the library as they are received. A prize drawing will take place in the children’s department at the library at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 22. Students do not need to be present to win.
The Friends of the Coos Bay Library sponsor this program and other library programs.
For more information, those interested can visit the Coos Bay Public Library at 525 W. Anderson Ave. or call 269-1101.
