PORTLAND (AP) — The family of an Oregon Health & Science University patient has donated $5 million to the OHSU Cancer Institute.

The family of James W. Mills made the donation to establish research laboratories in his name. Researchers at OHSU helped develop a drug to treat chronic myeloid leukemia that Mills’ family says saved his life.

Mills, who lives in Arizona, has been successfully treated with the drug since 2001.

Researchers at OHSU say the laboratories will help their search for the next generation of targeted therapies.
