The following meetings and activities are scheduled on the South Coast on Thursday.

The Bay Area Sunrise Rotary Club will meet at 7 a.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 1313 N. Bayshore Drive, in Coos Bay. The meetings end at 7:50 a.m. to allow members to arrive to work by 8 a.m. The club welcomes business owners, professionals and others in management positions, either working or retired.

The Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association will meet at 10 a.m. Lunch is held following the meeting at a location to be announced. All retired or active duty chief petty officers are welcome to attend. For more information, those interested can call Master Chief Bill Sheretz at (541) 997-2486.

The Humbug Mountain Weavers and Spinners Guild will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the Langlois Fire Hall. Elaine Owen will show participants how to create simple twined baskets. For more information, those interested can call (541) 332-6059.



Pinochle players
will gather at 1:30 p.m. at the Coos Bay Senior Citizen’s Center, on the corner of Fourth Street and Ingersoll Avenue.



A women’s sexual assault support group
will meet at 1 p.m. at Coddington Place, 1681 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay. The group is intended to support women who have been sexually abused or assaulted at any time in their lives.



A class on body awareness
will be offered from 2 to 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 438 Elrod Ave., in Coos Bay. Easy stretching, yoga postures, qi gung and tai chi will be incorporated into a smooth, gentle program focusing on balance, breathing and posture.

A diabetes discussion group will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Coquille Christian Community Church, 625 E. 10th St. 

The Charleston Merchants Association will meet at 6 p.m. at the Charleston Fire Department, 92342 Cape Arago Highway.

The South Coast Woodworker’s Guild will gather at 6 p.m in the woodshop at Reedsport Junior/Senior High School, 2260 Longwood Drive. The program will be “Cabinet Building Basics 101: Drawers.” 

The Saints ‘n’ Aints will host a beginning round dance class from 6 to 7 p.m. and an advanced class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and line dancing from 8:30 to 9 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 123 Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay. Round dance instruction will be by Donna Hiserote and line dancing by Cathy Houston. Dancers will learn basic waltz and two step.



Toastmaster’s Club No. 249
will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 1313 N. Bayshore Drive, in Coos Bay. Toastmasters is about communication and leadership skills, practicing parliamentary procedures and learning to make your voice count.

Thursday Bingo at Coos Bay Eagles No. 538 will begin at 6:45 p.m. at the lodge, 568 S. Second St., in Coos Bay.

The American Rhododendron Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the North Bend Housing Authority in North Bend. Floyd Vandervelden will present a slide show.  There will be an auction of plants and a door prize.

Author’s Night at 7 p.m. at the Coos Bay Public Library, 525 W. Anderson Ave., features a talk by Lise Hull, whose book “Coos County” is an assemblage of historical photographs.

The Soroptimist of the Bay Area will sponsor a special performance of “Damn Yankees” at Little Theatre on the Bay. The theater is located at 2100 Sherman Ave. Appetizers, desserts, wine and punch will be included in the $20 ticket price. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the play will start at 8.
