What's Ahead
Saturday, February 16, 2008 8:00 AM PST
The following are events scheduled on the South Coast this weekend and in the coming week.
Newman, Redford on big screen at Egyptian
“The Sting” (1973), starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford as two cons trying to bring down a crime boss, shows at 7 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, the musical “A Chorus Line” (1985) will be on screen.
The box office opens one hour before showtimes. General admission is $4, $3.50 for seniors and those 12 and under and $3 for members. Movies and showtimes are subject to change. For more information, those interested can call 269-8650.
Hiking group to trek onto North Spit
The South Coast Striders will host a beach walk on the North Spit on Saturday, Feb. 23.
Hikers will go out and take a last look at the New Carissa before work begins to remove the wreck. Participants should meet at the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s Boat Ramp at 10 a.m. The walk will combine portions of the Dune Loop and Ocean Shore Loop for a total of 5 miles, round trip. There will be lots of sand walking, so the hike is rated moderate to difficult.
This area has lots of standing water, so waterproof boots will be needed. Hiking sticks and rain gear are recommended.
For more information, those interested can e-mail Don Luce at naturalworld@verizon.net or call 266-8201 before 8 p.m. daily.
Firefighters griddling pancakes Feb. 23
The Coquille Volunteer Fire Department’s 13th-annual pancake breakfast, featuring pancakes, ham, eggs, juice and coffee, will be from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Fire Hall.
The meal will cost $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10. Proceeds will go to Legacy Emanuel Hospital’s children’s burn center in Portland. |
