Only 13 hardy souls braved the incessant rain accompanied by a moderate wind for the South Coast Running Club’s Prediction Run on the Coos Bay Boardwalk last Saturday.
In this unique event, participants predict how long it will take to complete a 5-mile run or 3-mile walk. Watches are not allowed.
Two runners tied for first place by finishing within four seconds of their predicted time. Joe Walker of North Bend and Tim Young of Coos Bay shared $65 in gift certificates for their efforts. John Gunther missed his prediction by nine seconds to earn third place and a $15 gift certificate.
The day’s fastest time was turned in by Lawrence Cheal, who finished the 5-mile run in 34:35. Karen Matson led the women in 38:15.
Babe Ruth WorkoutsAll players who are interested in playing Babe Ruth baseball this summer are encouraged to attend open cages at the Marshfield High School batting cages.
The cages will be open every Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning Feb. 13. Only those between the ages of 12-15 and who have filled out a registration form will be able to participate. Registration forms will be available at the cages as well as Sunset Middle School.
Official Babe Ruth signups will start April 5 and tryouts will be held on April 27.
Women’s Volleyball LeagueThere will be an informational and planning meeting for the upcoming women’s volleyball league on Monday, Feb. 11, starting at 6 p.m. at Dave’s Pizza, 1933 Newmark Ave, North Bend.
