The following are events and activities scheduled in the coming weeks on the South Coast.
New women’s Bible study groups formingWomen of the Word, and interdenominational Bible study will meet on Tuesdays, starting this week.
The group will study another Cynthia Heald guide, “Becoming A Woman Who Loves.”
A 9:30 a.m. group will meet at the Coquille Nazarene Church, 997 W. Central; and a 6:30 p.m. group will meet at 1598 N. Ivy in Coquille.

Jazz trio due on stage in Coos Bay this weekThe Coos County Community Concert Association presents The Jeni Fleming Acoustic Trio at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Marshfield High School auditorium.
Season tickets for the concert series are still available at $55 for adults and $35 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the office of Mike Gordon at 290 S. Fourth Street, Coos Bay; or by calling 269-1272. A limited number of tickets for individual concerts may be available at the door. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:50 p.m.
Coos Bay garden taking applications for plotsApplications are available for garden plots and membership for Lady Bug Landing Community Garden in downtown Coos Bay.
Interested gardeners can pick up applications at the garden, which is at the corner of Eighth Street and Anderson Avenue; Farr’s Hardware; Coos Grange Supply; and McKay’s Freshmart in Coos Bay.
Applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all the plots are assigned, names will be placed on a waiting list. There are 48 beds that are 4 feet by 12 feet, and 12 beds that are 4 feet by 10 feet.
Lady Bug Landing will be open for planting after Feb. 1. Gardeners must receive a plot number and attend an orientation before starting gardening.

Rhody club slide show to feature wildflowersThe Southwestern Oregon chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will meet at 7 p.m., on Feb. 21, in the auditorium of the North Bend Housing Authority, 1700 Monroe Ave.
Retired forester Floyd Vandervelden, who is very knowledgeable about Oregon wildflowers, will present a slide show. Refreshments will be served. There will be an auction of plants and a door prize.

Fly fishermen hosting expo in ReedsportThe Lower Umpqua Flycasters will sponsor the 18th-annual Flyfishing Expo from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, in Reedsport.
The event will be held at Reedsport High School, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 101 and 22nd Street.
The expo will feature lectures and demonstrations by experts in flyfishing, flytying, flycasting and conservation, as well as a silent auction, raffle, door prizes and concessions. Admission is free.
The Lower Umpqua Flycasters is a nonprofit club and a member of the Flyfishing Federation.

Young actors present variety show in BandonThe “I Wanna Be a Star!” Variety Show, featuring more than 25 Bandon youth entertainers, will be presented at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, on the Sprague Community Theater stage, 1204 11th St. S.W., in City Park.
Performances will include hit songs such as “Pop” by ’N Sync, “Bop to the Top” from “High School Musical,” “Memory” from “Cats,” “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by the Charlie Daniels Band, “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah” from Disney’s “Song of the South” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from “The Wizard of Oz.”
Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for students, and are available at Bandon True Value Hardware, Chetco Federal Credit Union, at the door or by calling the Almichs at 347-2517.
