The following are meetings and activities scheduled Friday in Coos County

Scottsburg will celebrate the 211th birthday of its founder, Levi Scott,  from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Scottsburg Historical Building on state Highway 38 (near milepost 17). There will be birthday cake, punch and a good supply of coffee. Some historical information will be on display. Scott founded Scottsburg in 1850. He served in the Oregon Territorial Legislature and was a delegate to the State Constitutional Convention in 1857.  

An Opening Night Gala for “Damn Yankees!,” Little Theatre on the Bay’s mid-winter musical, will be held at 6 p.m. at Ciccarelli’s Restaurant, across the street from LTOB, 2100 Sherman Ave., in North Bend. The theatrical production will start at 8 p.m. Separate admissions are required, and tickets for the gala cost $7.50, which covers the food. All seats will cost $12 when purchased at the time of each show. The box office will be open today and Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and one hour before the show.  

The Saints ’n’ Aints Square and Round Dance Club will hold a plus dance at the United Methodist Church, 123 Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay. Kathy Houston will lead line dancing starting at 6:30 p.m. Donna Hiserote will start cuing round dancing at 7, and Sherm Welch will begin calling for squares at 7:30. A Stable and Free Eternally meeting will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the North Bend Church of God, 1067 Newmark St. Meetings are open to those who are experiencing any type of addictive behavior. For more information, those interested can call 756-6289 or 888-0401.

The Boys and Girls Club of  Southwestern Oregon will hold a Valentine’s teen dance for all students sixth through eighth grade from 7 to 9:20 p.m. at the club, 3333 Walnut Ave., Coos Bay. North Bend Gold Prospectors will meet at 7 p.m. on the second Friday of the month at the North Bend Senior Center, 1470 Airport Lane. Raffles for gold and prizes are held. For more information, those interested can call Bob at 269-7370.  

Folk songwriter and activist John Flynn will perform at 7 p.m. at Colette’s, 3229 Broadway St., suites H and I, North Bend.  Flynn’s music is featured on two documentaries to be released this year, one on Hurricane Katrina and one on the worldwide epidemic of pediatric HIV/AIDS. The suggested donation is $7.

An Acoustic Circle Jam will be held at 7 p.m. at Farwest Hall, on state Highway 42 South in Bandon. All ages and proficiencies are welcome to play and sing old time fiddle, bluegrass, Celtic, gospel or country music. Listeners also are welcome.

The Friday Foreign Film series at Coos Bay Public Library will feature the 2006 award-winning Swiss drama “Fraulein” at 7 p.m. The film tells the story of a friendship among three women from Yugoslavia. The “Friday Foreign Film” series is normally held on the second Friday of the month and is free to the public. Many of these films are not rated and parental discretion is advised.

North Bend High School’s Hesperian Players will present Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap,” in the school’s multi-purpose room, 2323 Pacific Ave. The show starts at at 7 p.m.

Vin Diesel stars in the 2001 movie “The Fast and the Furious” at the Egyptian Theatre on Friday. The show starts at 7 p.m., with the box office open one hour before showtime. General admission is $4, $3.50 for seniors and those 12 and under, and $3 for members.

HOT MEALS FOR SENIORS: Bay Area Senior Activity Center offers soups, salads, entrées and desserts at 11:30 a.m. each day except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Cost is $3.50 for BASAC members, $4 for non-members. The resale shop is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. BASAC is located at 886 S. Fourth St., Coos Bay.

THE NORTH BEND SENIOR CENTER’S luncheon program is available to everyone, not just seniors. Buffet-style meals are available from 11:45 a.m. until everyone is served, Monday through Friday. Meals cost $5 and monthly menus are available.

The works of artist South Coast artist Jessica Elam are on display at Evergreen Court, 451 O’Connell St., in North Bend. Elam’s pieces include a range of styles from textured pointillism, to floral depictions, nature and landscapes. Elam enjoys experimenting with different textures and light effects in her acrylics.
