This weekend’s SEA seminar on tidepools

“Intertidal Life” is the topic of the second 2008 Shoreline Education for Awareness seminar on Saturday.
The talk will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Boathouse Auditorium at Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston.
The seminar begins with a PowerPoint presentation on “Intertidal Life,” by Stephanie Miller, interpretive ranger at Sunset Bay State Park. Miller will acquaint the audience with creatures many people have never seen or know little about, such as gooseneck barnacles, limpets, chitons, sculpins and other underwater near-shore creatures.
To see those creatures in action, a field trip to Sunset Bay State Park after the seminar is scheduled near dusk, to take advantage of the darkness. The field trip will begin about 5 p.m. Those attending should bring flashlights, and SEA members will provide red filters for them so that the light does not inhibit the activities of the intertidal animals.
Attendees should wear waterproof boots and warm clothing. The field trip will last about one hour.
SEA seminars cost $5 but are free to members. Membership is available at the auditorium for $20 for individuals or $35 for a family of two or more.
