The crew at the Coos County Historical & Maritime Museum in North Bend is ready to put away the hammers and nails and open the newest exhibit.

Saturday is opening day.

The “Coal & Timber, Rail & Water: The Forces that Shaped Coos County” exhibit details mining in Coos County at the turn of the 20th century. The exhibit took a team of 20 volunteers seven weeks to complete.

The museum’s collections manager, Vicki Wiese, revealed a print inside the North Bend museum’s newest exhibit last Friday. In addition to photos, the display will include turn-of-the-century mining gear.

The exhibit “Pioneer Living” also is on display.

The museum is located at 1220 Sherman Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Coos County Historical Society members get in free and for others admission is $2 for visitors 12 and older.
