Tracy and Hepburn, Burns and Allen — Vito and Theda? The Sprague Community Theater will present the no-holds-barred, “screwball” romantic comedy “It Had To Be You,” performed by FoxWell Productions, a professional touring company based in Brookings.
Produced by Sprague Theater manager Jeff Norris, the show runs Feb. 15-17. Friday and Saturday performances will be at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday performance will be a 2 p.m. matinee.
“It Had To Be You” is not the usual “Boy meets girl” formula, according to a press release. Zany Theda Blau is a late-blooming, dumb-like-a-fox blonde. Vito Pignoli, a successful TV producer, is a smooth and savvy ladies’ man. When they meet, she knows that he is the one. “This is a coincidence,” she coos. “I love Italian food!” An actress and writer desperate for success in love and career, Theda is determined to make Vito her dream come true, whether he likes it or not — even if she has to hold him hostage. Victoria Weller and Michael S. Fox fire up the comic artillery in this two-character romp, which originally starred its authors, Renee Taylor and Joseph Bologna, on Broadway.
Tickets cost $15 general admission and $12 for seniors and students, and available at Bandon True Value Hardware, 347-2506; Bandon Mercantile, 347-4341; and The Sprague Community Theater at 347-7426. The Sprague is located at 1202 11th St. S.W. in Bandon.
