South Coast readers often have different preferences in books than those elsewhere. Here are the top-five sellers this week at Books By the Bay in North Bend, according to owner Trish Price:

“Harriet and Isabella” by Patricia O’Brien is a new historical novel about the famous Beecher family (that of Harriet Beecher Stowe) and the sex scandal that nearly severed the loving bond between two sisters.

“Slash” by Slash and Anthony Bozza is the memoir of the Guns N’ Roses guitarist.

Geraldine Brooks’ “People of the Book” is inspired by the true tale of a rare book and its journey through time and war.

“Child of a Dead God” is the latest in the popular Noble Dead series by Barb and JC Hendee.

“A Taste of Colored Water” by Matt Faulkner gives an unforgettable account of what happens when the naive imagination of a child meets the harsh reality of intolerance, in this tale set in America’s South in the early 1960s.
