North Bend’s girls swimming team won a four-school meet with Marist, Blanchet and Reedsport at North Bend Municipal Pool on Thursday.
Rachel Heaney won two events and North Bend swept the relays as the Bulldogs scored 408 to 349 for runner-up Blanchet.
Blanchet took the team title for boys, edging North Bend 349-337.
Heaney won both the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle for North Bend.
The Bulldogs also got a victory by Amy Walker in the 500 freestyle, in addition to their wins in all the relays.
Matt Johnson won the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke for North Bend’s boys. Michael Brainard won the 200 freestyle and Daniel Canaga took the 50 freestyle.
Alan Roy won the 100 freestyle for Reedsport.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Panthers win
Gold Beach firmed up its hold on third place in the Sunset Conference by beating host Cascade Christian 43-26 on Thursday in a game that had been postponed earlier in the week.
Kourtney Moore led the Panthers with 19 points and six steals. Katherine Zuber had 12 points while shooting 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
“I thought we started off a bit slow but we turned it up in the third and fourth quarters,” said Gold Beach coach Jim Hulslander.
Leading the Monarchs were Kierstin Barlow and Andi Vondra with eight points each.
Gold Beach improved to 7-2 in league play and has a chance to move up in the standings, with home games remaining against first-place Myrtle Point and second-place Coquille.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Challengers still perfect
Cascade Christian clinched at least a share of the Sunset Conference title by beating visiting Gold Beach 59-35.
The Challengers, a perfect 9-0, have a three-game lead on Glide with three games to go, and swept the season series with the Wildcats, meaning even with three straight losses Cascade Christian would be the top seed for the upcoming league tournament.
Scott Morse had 13 points and Jeremy Cheney 12 for the Challengers.
Gold Beach fell to 4-5, which puts the Panthers in fourth place heading into tonight’s games.
WRESTLING
Bulldogs lose twice
Douglas and Glide both beat North Bend in a pair of wrestling duals at Glide on Thursday.
Douglas beat the Bulldogs 46-24, recording pins by Andrew Neilsen (215 pounds) and Joe Dubie (285) in the final two matches.
The Trojans also got pins by Trinity Castner (125) and Jacob Neilsen (160) and a decisions by David Yecha (119), and received three forfeits.
North Bend got pins by Austin Hensley (145) and Jon Moore (189) and decisions by Nathan Kelly (140) and Bruce Ohlrich (152).
Glide pounded North Bend 63-12, with pins by Cody Kame (130 pounds), Gabe Forrester (145), Brock Halter (152), Robin Bollinger (160), Kaleb Wright (189), Mike Hayter (215) and Jason Rondeau (285).
Kelly had a pin for North Bend at 140 pounds and the Bulldogs got their other win by forfeit.
Thursday’s win by Douglas over North Bend clinched the Far West League dual title for the Trojans.
On Wednesday, Douglas edged South Umpqua 38-36 in another league match.
Lancers win two
South Umpqua beat visiting Myrtle Point and Siuslaw in a pair of dual meets.
The Lancers topped the Bobcats 50-21.
Alex Hunt (135 pounds), Travis Hayter (152) and Bo Younker (189) all pinned their opponents for the Lancers, while Brandon Bowers (103) and Brian Bowers (112) both won decisions.
Myrtle Point got pins by Tony Moran (130), Ben Jernstedt (145) and Alex Palmas (285) and a decision by Travis Martin (119).
The Lancers benefited from nine forfeits in their 66-18 win over Siuslaw.
Hayter had a pin for the Lancers, while Siuslaw got pins by Cameron Earle (145 pounds) and Devin White (285). The Vikings’ Denver Conrad had a technical fall in an exhibition bout with Cascade Christian’s Derek Bite.
