Jazz festival warm-up concert Thursday night

Get ready for the Clambake Festival with a warm-up concert and dance at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Sawmill Events Center, at the Autumn House Restaurant, 3491 Broadway Ave., North Bend.

The Young Bucs Bluegrass Band will share the stage with the 12-piece Soulpie Band.

Tickets cost $10 and are available at Off the Record in North Bend. The South Coast Clambake Jazz Festival will be held March 7-9.

Workshop focus is on Chinese medicine

Roberta Roth, a licensed clinical social worker and international presenter on psychotherapy and the healing arts, will lead a workshop on Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong on Friday and Saturday. The workshop will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Friday; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday.

 Qigong focuses on the energies within the body and uses the 5,000-year-old principles of traditional Chinese medicine. It is a meridian-based meditative, whole body form of Qigong designed to restore energy flow, foster relaxation and personal rejuvenation. No particular level of physical fitness is required to participate, a press release said.

Langlois musicians plan a Friday night jam

There will be an Acoustic Circle Jam on Friday at the Fire Hall in Langlois.

A potluck will begin at 6 p.m., with music thereafter. All ages and proficiencies are invited to play old time, fiddle, country, bluegrass or gospel music. Listeners are welcome, too.

Coos Art Museum show opens Friday

“Keepers of CAM: Art by Museum Directors and Staff” will open with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, at the Coos Art Museum.

The exhibit runs through March 1, in the Uno E. Richter Atrium Gallery on the second floor of the museum building. It represents a unique opportunity to view the wide selection of art media and styles practiced by Coos Art Museum insiders, according to a press release.

 The exhibit features art works created by the folks who make the art museum happen. The reception is held in conjunction with Wine Walk.

Square dancers plan first of month event

The Saints ’n’ Aints Square and Round Dance Club will hold a regularly scheduled first Saturday dance on Feb. 2, at the United Methodist Church, 123 Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay.

Pre-rounds, with Donna Hiserote cuing, will begin at 7 p.m., with squares beginning at 7:30, with Sherm Welch calling.

 The dance club has scheduled several other events in February, at the United Methodist Church, 123 Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay:

• At a plus dance on Friday, Feb. 8,  Kathy Houston will lead line dancing from 6:30 7 p.m. Hiserote will start cuing round dancing at 7 and Welch will begin calling for squares at 7:30 

• Remember the 1950s and ‘60s with special fondness? The Saints ’n’ Aints will hold a special dance featuring ‘50s and ‘60s costumes, music and decorations. Houston will lead the line dancing. Hiserote will cue for round dancing. Welch will call for squares.
