A heavy snow warning is in effect tonight through tomorrow afternoon for much of Coos and Curry counties. But residents in the bay area probably won¹t see much in the way of snow. According to the National Weather Service, a cold front heading toward Southwest Oregon will reach the coast tonight, spreading rain and snow inland. The warning begins at 10 p.m. Monday and extends through 4 p.m. Tuesday and includes the cities of Coos Bay, North Bend, Reedsport, Coquille and Brookings.

Snow levels will range from about 500 to 1,500 feet, but could reach areas as low as sea level at times. About 2 to 6 inches of snow are expected to fall above 1,000 feet along the coast. Areas above 1,500 feet could see snowfall in the range of 6 to 10 inches. Snow depths near sea level are expected to be low, the Weather Service said.

Drivers are urged to use extreme caution if they must travel, and carry flashlights, food and water in case of an emergency.
