Faces of Florence
Monday, January 28, 2008 11:05 AM PST
The Florence Events Center will feature several artists during February at its galleries.
• Gallery One will feature photographer Larry DeBord’s show “Faces,” along with Candice McKay’s jewelry show “Beach Candy.”
DeBord, photographer of coronary arteries, flora, fauna and landscapes, explores the more dynamic landscape of the faces encountered in Florence. The portfolio of large format photographs celebrates the Florence community by exhibiting its faces in a very personal, intimate, positive and sometimes whimsical way. “Faces” is a collaborative effort by the photographer and his subjects, according to a press release.
All sales profits will be donated to a local charity. A reception will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, in conjunction with the Second Saturday GALA Artwalk.
Candice McKay’s “Beach Candy” features unique jewelry creations. McKay lives in a cottage over looking the ocean near Florence and said that many of her designs are inspired by this location. Her jewelry is primarily made up of natural and enhanced semi-precious gemstones, crystals, pearls and glass.
• Gallery Five will display “From Realism to Pluralism,” by Morgan Johnson. Johnson’s art is not centered on one style since it’s the subject matter that dictates whether to paint using “realism, pointillism, or abstract/hard-edge,” said a press release.
Morgan’s show will give “a glimpse of the evolution from accurate representation to today’s venue of ‘anything goes.’” The majority of his inspiration comes from Nature.
For more information about Johnson, those interested can visit http://www.MorganJ.com.
The Events Center is located at 715 Quince St. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and during center events. |
