Great quakes lecture at 7 p.m.
“Great Earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest: New Views of Monitoring and the Episodic Tremor and Slip Story” will be the topic of a free talk by scientist Dr. Kelin Wang at 7 p.m. in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the Southwestern Coos Bay campus, 1988 Newmark Ave. The lecture marks the 308th anniversary of the last great Cascadia subduction zone earthquake. Wang plans to discuss some of the cutting edge science associated with the study of Cascadia megathrust earthquakes.
Dancing lessons at 7:30 p.m.
Dance lessons will be offered from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bandon Grange Farwest Hall on state Highway 42 South, just east of U.S. Highway 101. A dance follows the lessons from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Those attending can wear casual clothing, and singles and couples are welcome. No smoking or alcohol is allowed. There is no charge but donations will be accepted to support grange activities. For more information, those interested can call 756-6998 or 347-5626.

North Bend
Free movie night starts at 6:30 p.m. at the North Bend United Methodist Church, 2289 Meade St. The movie will be “Amazing Grace” (2007), about William Wilberforce and his fight to end the British slave trade in the 19th century.
Popcorn and drinks will be provided. There will be a discussion after the movie.
Egyptian Theatre
“The Milagro Beanfield War” (1988) will be on the big screen at 7 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay. Directed by Robert Redford, the movie tells the story of a rural New Mexican town and its struggle to survive (Rated R).
The box office opens one hour before show times. General admission is $4, $3.50 for seniors and $3 for children age 12 and younger.
