Frigid weather conditions, ice lead to crashes

Slick roads and icy conditions led to several traffic accidents across the Bay Area overnight and this morning.
One incident occurred when a car slid off the roadway on Shinglehouse Road. Another accident was reported in the Barview area of Charleston, when a car went off the road and down an embankment. No additional information on these incidents was available as of press time.
While the slippery conditions might have caused a few headaches here, the National Weather Service issued warnings Friday for Portland, Eugene and surrounding areas. A pair of strong weather systems this weekend is expected to bring heavy mountain snows and the possibility of freezing rain in the lowlands along the north coast this weekend.
Residents are warned to be prepared for winter weather travel in Northwest Oregon and Southwestern Washington.
