Fishing boat rescues 3 from sinking tug

TILLAMOOK (AP) — A fishing boat rescued three people Wednesday from a tugboat sinking off the north Oregon coast.
The Joe Foss was “pretty full” when the distress call came in after 6 a.m., Coast Guard Petty Officer Ranae Johnston said.
The fishing boat Kilchis picked up the three men, who were not immediately identified. They were not hurt. They were transferred to a Coast Guard vessel and taken to Garibaldi.
The 45-foot tug was on its way from Seattle to Depoe Bay when it sank about four miles southwest of Tillamook Bay.
It had reported taking on water two days earlier, but it had been repaired.
Johnston says the Coast Guard launched a helicopter and sent a lifeboat to aid in the rescue.
The cause of the sinking was under investigation, Johnston said.
